A Great Place for Students
UCLan Carlisle may be quieter but that doesn't mean sleepy! The rapid rise in Carlisle's student population has led to the development of a host of facilities in the city ranging from café bars and restaurants, to bookshops and leisure attractions, which cater for a diverse range of interests and tastes. There are plenty of shops for those in need of retail therapy and pubs, clubs and venues to keep you entertained at night.
No wonder UCLan at Carlisle attracts a great mix of students. So, whether you are looking close to home, from elsewhere in the UK or from overseas and you're looking to study in a relatively quiet and more beautiful environment, UCLan Carlisle may be just what you are looking for.
Excellence in Learning and Teaching
Recent government inspections have put us in the top 5 of all universities for teaching, learning and student support. Students in Carlisle not only benefit from this our experience in delivering high quality courses but also the support and extra attention that a small and friendly campus can offer.
Uclan Preston
Our Preston campus is a modern green oasis in the heart of England's newest city.
Getting about is easy – the bus and train stations are a short walk from the Campus, which has a compact, friendly feel. Most of the buildings are within a ten minute walk of each other and there are fantastic new facilities for the Business, Health and Science Faculties, along with cutting edge study environments in technology, arts and humanities. Campus developments continue to go from strength to strength and you can see many of the latest on the UCLan news site.
To help you find your way around there's a student information centre called The ‘i' situated in the centre of the Campus and is the first port of call for help and advice on most subjects – from accommodation to careers to council tax.
The Students' Union is at the heart of student life on campus and our new £6.5 million building boasts some of the best facilities in the country, including retail and catering outlets, a print shop and our very own radio station and magazine. In 2005 the new entertainments venue, 53° was voted Students' Union of the Year by the British Entertainments and Disco Association (BEDA).
The large population of UCLan students has turned Preston into an energetic city with a buzzing nightlife and a growing arts scene, surrounded by pubs, clubs and eateries that provide worldwide cuisine to cater for every palette. There's a range of entertainment venues, including the Guild Hall and Charter Theatre, providing year round entertainment, such as major sporting events, ballet, drama, concerts and much, much more. Sport and recreation are a major part of student life and we have first rate facilities both on campus and on our doorstep. Foster Sports Centre was recently extended and refurbished to provide a full range of activities for health and fitness and indoor sport. Outdoor sports can be enjoyed at the nearby Preston Sports Arena which can compete with the best in the northwest, offering facilities for team sports, racket sports, outdoor pursuits, fitness and athletics.
And if you ever tire of Preston's other attractions, such as big-name shops, museums and cultural attractions, the city's excellent transport links mean that you can be building sandcastles in Blackpool, rambling up a hill in the Lake District or sampling big city life in Manchester – all within the hour.
